About Us

Established in 2007, the mission of the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council is to promote the exchange of information, techniques and experiences of the Pennsylvania prescribed fire community, and to promote public understanding of the importance and benefits of prescribed fire.

Our objectives are:

  • Provide a framework for communications in relation to prescribed fire objectives, techniques and issues.

  • Review prescribed fire practices, regulations and policy, advising at the national, state and local level, as they relate to prescribed fire in Pennsylvania.

  • Disseminate technical information on planning, execution and evaluation of prescribed fire.

  • Promote the development and utilization of prescribed fire practices commensurate with desirable environmental resource management.

  • Promote public understanding of the benefits of prescribed fire.

  • Coordinate with federal and state air quality regulators to limit the negative effects of smoke from prescribed fire.

  • Promote safety, training, and research in the art and science of prescribed fire.

Our Board.

Our Board of Directors is elected by the Council's general membership to 3-year terms.

Our Committees.

Members who are able to commit for at least a year are welcome to serve on committees of the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council (PPFC). If interested, please reach out to the committee lead listed below.

  • Annual Conference Committee. Plans and executes PPFC’s annual conference. Lead: Kip Adams.

  • Communications Committee. Coordinates PPFC’s communications with members and the public. Lead: Jeremy Dayhoff.

  • Elections Committee. Oversees nomination and voting of PPFC members to the Board of Directors. Lead: Todd Breininger.

  • Governance Committee. Regulates and tracks decisions of the PPFC Board of Directors. Lead: Todd Breininger.

  • Private Lands Committee. Directs the Certified Prescribed Burn Manager program. Leads: Todd Breininger.

  • Standards Committee. Oversees changes to Pennsylvania’s Prescribed Fire Standards. Lead: Todd Breininger.

  • Training Committee. Provides and promotes prescribed fire training opportunities to PPFC members. Lead: Bryan Whitmore.

Steering Committee.

These nonprofit organizations guide the work of the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council. Organization representatives may observe and give input at Board Meetings.
