Certified Prescribed Burn Manager
We established the CPBM program in 2024 to encourage safe and effective burning of Pennsylvania's privately owned lands. Under state law, being certified provides certain legal protections for CPBMs and landowners who contract them.
Get Certified.
If you are a landowner looking to contract a qualified burn manager, you can find a list here.
If you completed the CPBM course,
you can find CPBM and class files here.
Please refer to Appendices C, D, and E of the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Standards for the steps required to become a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager (CPBM).
Courses include:
-
S-130 Firefighter (Requires an in-person field component. Reach out to your Forest District Office about the availability of a field day.)
-
IS-700B Introduction to the National Incident Management System
-
And the CPBM course that we offer at least annually.
It is recommended that you complete at least three operational periods as a crew member before attending the Certified Prescribed Burn Manager course. One wildfire assignment can be counted towards the five total operational periods required to become fully certified.
